Spectrum Health Systems was recently awarded a $75,000 grant from the Center for Community Recovery Innovations (CCRI) at MassHousing to develop affordable housing for individuals in recovery. CCRI is a nonprofit subsidiary of MassHousing working to increase the availability of affordable alcohol and drug free housing in Massachusetts. This funding will support renovation activities at Spectrum's new affordable housing project in Worcester.

Spectrum purchased the property in Worcester earlier this year and is now in the process of completing major renovations, including significant remodeling, plumbing, roofing and electrical work. A front entrance ramp is also being added. The renovated house will offer 14 units of alcohol and drug-free housing including a completely wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant unit on the ground floor.

Spectrum's Housing Specialist James Meola, an experienced healthcare facility administrator, stated, "We're on schedule and looking forward to completing renovations quickly. This will be a top notch, accessible facility ready to support people in recovery."

Spectrum initiated the project recognizing that individuals in recovery living in the community often lack suitable, affordable and dignified housing arrangements. The house will provide individuals in recovery with a safe living environment free from alcohol and illicit drugs. Residents will be charged a nominal rent and have access to public transportation, employment centers and treatment facilities including Spectrum's continuum of care most notably its Worcester Peer Recovery Support Center and Worcester-based outpatient clinics.

Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit substance abuse and mental health treatment provider. Spectrum operates nearly 100 institutional and community-based programs in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Georgia, Tennessee, Maine, Maryland, Iowa and Washington State - serving more than 20,000 individuals each year.
