Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. was recently re-awarded a key contract by the Iowa Department of Corrections to administer substance abuse assessments for all offenders entering the state’s criminal justice system.

Spectrum has operated the assessment program on behalf of the Iowa Department of Corrections since 2008.  Through this comprehensive assessment process, thousands of offenders are screened and referred to appropriate treatment programs every year based on their individual risk/need levels. This practice is positively correlated with reductions in future criminal behavior.

"The Department’s commitment to employing nationally recognized best practices is highly complementary with Spectrum's evidence-based assessment and treatment programming,” indicated Christopher Petrozzi, Spectrum’s executive vice president of correctional services.  “We are proud to continue our partnership with the Iowa Department of Corrections in their efforts to provide state of the art assessment, treatment, and community reentry services to offenders."

Spectrum's Correctional Treatment Division was established in 1993 to provide specialized treatment to criminal offenders with a history of chronic substance abuse and criminal behavior.  Today, Spectrum operates a range of in-prison and community-based programs throughout Massachusetts, Georgia, Maine, Tennessee, Iowa, Rhode Island, Florida and Washington State, serving more than 6,500 criminal offenders each day.
