Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. Hires Seasoned Psychiatrist

Published On: August 15th, 2018

Dr. Rogelio D. Bayog joins Spectrum to focus on co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc., a leading provider of addiction treatment services for nearly 50 years, announces the appointment of Dr. Rogelio D. Bayog, a psychiatrist with a lengthy and distinguished career of treating co-occurring disorders. As Spectrum forges the future of addiction treatment, his vision is to provide psychiatric care within all of the organization’s treatment facilities.

“Dr. Bayog is a welcome addition to the Spectrum team as we continue to invest in our services in treating addiction,” said Kurt Isaacson, president and CEO at Spectrum Health Systems. “Our comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach is what sets us apart and helps our clients create a foundation to achieve and maintain sobriety. Growing our psychiatry services was a natural next step as we continue leading the state in treating addiction.”

Dr. Bayog will work with Spectrum’s clinical and medical staff to provide early diagnosis for co-morbid mental health issues while extending psychiatric care to all levels of care. The most common co-occurring disorders among people struggling with addiction include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress syndrome and schizophrenia, though few treatment centers are equipped to treat multiple disorders at once.

“For people struggling with co-occurring disorders, it’s important that they receive the appropriate type of treatment depending on the stage of their illness,” said Dr. Bayog. “Spectrum Health Systems has an advantage by having each level of care so clearly defined. We’re able to determine the right place for each client coming into treatment.”

Dr. Bayog has held various positions in hospitals and addiction treatment programs across Massachusetts, including Morton Hospital as the medical director in the psychogeriatric department for the last 20 years, chief of psychiatry at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center’s in Brockton and Roxbury, medical director at Fuller Hospital’s Addictions Treatment program in South Attleboro, chief of staff at Veteran Affairs Medical Center Alcoholism and Drug Dependence program in Brockton, medical director at East Boston’s Drug Rehabilitation Center and medical director at NORCAP Lodge in Foxborough.
