Following a competitive bid process, Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. was selected by the Maine Department of Corrections to provide substance abuse treatment services to male inmates incarcerated at the Maine Correctional Center at Windham and the Central Maine Pre-Release Center in Hallowell.

Program participants include inmates with a history of chronic substance abuse. The program involves nine months of intensive treatment, after which participants are transitioned to a three-month pre-release center for continuing treatment and release preparation.

"The Maine Department of Corrections realizes that an investment in treatment reduces the risk of re-incarceration," said Peter Paolantonio, Vice President for Clinical Services. "We are pleased to partner with the state of Maine while supporting their efforts to re-direct inmates to more productive lifestyles."

Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit provider of substance abuse treatment and mental health services. In addition to Maine, Spectrum currently operates programs in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Georgia, Arizona and Hawaii – serving more than 18,000 adults and at-risk youth each year.
