Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. recently received another three-year accreditation from CARF International for its statewide Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Programs (RSAT) in Georgia.  CARF International is the leading independent accreditor of health and human services across the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Spectrum’s Georgia program staff and directors demonstrate a respect for the detainees’ recovery journey, according to CARF.  The robust training offered to staff, consistent delivery of clinical services and the extensive use of resources to create evidence-based curriculums were highlights of the accreditation report.  CARF took note of the enhanced professional development offered to staff in relation to the optimal outcomes sought for program participants.  According to Sabrina Hudnall, Spectrum’s Georgia State Director “The excellent outcomes we’re seeing in these programs is a testament to their hard work and dedication. “

The ten RSAT programs managed by Spectrum in Georgia, which provide services for over 2,000 inmates, were specifically recognized for impressive demonstrated outcomes in areas such as decreases in crime and relapse.  As a Modified Therapeutic Community, offenders involved with Spectrum’s RSAT programs are held accountable to pro-social norms that are preparatory to successful community reintegration.  Spectrum was originally awarded the Georgia RSAT contract in 1994; Spectrum was most recently re-awarded the contract for services in Georgia in September of 2014.

“We’re very proud to be recognized for our efforts in delivering high quality services to program participants and preparing them for re-entry.” stated Dennis Theriault, Spectrum’s Executive Director of Quality Improvement and Compliance, who oversees accreditation for the agency.  “CARF was clear, the positive working relationship between Spectrum Health Systems and the Georgia Department of Corrections demonstrates not just a respect for the detainee’s recovery, but nurtures a necessary sense of community.  We can see the results of this commitment in terms of decreased recidivism and reductions in crime following release. ”

Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit substance abuse and mental health treatment provider.  In addition to Georgia, Spectrum operates programs in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Iowa, Maine, Tennessee and Washington State - serving more than 48,000 adults and at-risk youth each year.
