Peter Paolantonio, chief clinical officer (CCO) of Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. and nationally recognized lecturer and consultant, was recently awarded the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Behavioral Healthcare (ABH) for his contributions over the course of his 40-year career at Spectrum.  Mr. Paolantonio received his award during the ABH’s Salute to Excellence ceremony on October 23rd at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, Massachusetts.

PaolantonioAs CCO, Mr. Paolantonio is responsible for leading the planning, implementation and ongoing integration of best practices across Spectrum’s extensive continuum of care, including specialized programs for men, women, adolescents, young adults and criminal offenders.  His hard work and longstanding commitment to the utilization of evidence-based practices is best exemplified by the countless individuals and families who have rebuilt their lives thanks to the quality services, care and support they received at Spectrum.

In consultation with leading researchers, Mr. Paolantonio established Spectrum's cognitive behavioral treatment approach for offenders. For 22 years, Mr. Paolantonio has worked to integrate the therapeutic community model into in-prison treatment programs, and today more than 90 correctional facilities across the nation benefit from his work. 

“I’m humbled and honored by the recognition my colleagues and peers have given me today,” said Mr. Paolantonio after receiving his award.  “People will often ask me why I’ve spent my entire career with Spectrum.  I believe with my heart and soul in the Spectrum way and try to live it every day. I’m so proud to be a part of the Spectrum family,” he continued.
