Spectrum's newest outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment program in Pittsfield, Massachusetts., recently earned a three-year accreditation from CARF International, a well-respected and independent accrediting body in the health and human services industry. Accreditation comes less than a year from the opening of the new Pittsfield Outpatient Clinic at 42 Summer Street.

Achieving accreditation from CARF International requires demonstrated conformance to proven standards for business and service delivery practices, a commitment to continuous quality improvement and ongoing performance monitoring.  According to Kristin Nolan, Spectrum’s executive director of outpatient services, “This is a mark of our ability to deliver high quality services.”

“We had no recommendations (for improvements), which is something less than 3% of all surveyed programs achieve,” added Nolan.  “This is a fantastic achievement for Spectrum and for the clients we serve every day.”

To date, the Pittsfield clinic has served 310 clients in medication-assisted treatment and substance abuse and mental health counseling.  Previous to the new clinic, many local residents had to travel an hour or more to get treatment.  This deterred many from accessing services.

The Pittsfield Outpatient Clinic is part of Spectrum’s continuum of care that includes short- and long-term residential, intensive outpatient, and peer recovery support services.   Spectrum’s full range of services offers individuals with substance abuse and mental health disorders the opportunity to transition to less intensive treatment as their recovery progresses.  All of Spectrum’s community-based treatment programs are accredited by CARF International.

Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit substance abuse and mental health treatment provider. The organization currently treats 45,000 individuals each year through more than 125 programs in community-based settings and correctional institutions throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Georgia, Tennessee, Iowa, Maine, Florida, and Washington State.
