The Next Big Thing: “Grey Death” Heroin

The latest fatal heroin mix, “grey death,” is taking the streets by storm and its users in mere minutes.

And it’s as ominous as the name suggests - the end result of using “grey death” is typically overdose or even death. According to a Georgia Bureau of Investigations lab analysis, “grey death” includes fentanyl and a related designer drug called U-47700, and looks like a chunk of concrete. The mixture has been hailed as the scariest and most deadly combo to hit the streets in decades, and a portion as small as a tiny grain can leave its user dead. Although naloxone is being administered to reverse overdoses and has saved countless lives, in the case of “grey death,” even that may not help.

With a national opioid crisis vigorously taking over our streets, we are continuing to see heroin being mixed with even more potent and dangerous opioid drugs like fentanyl and carfentanil. Those involved in making such deadly killers are tainting the already dangerous substance with cheap opioid alternatives in order to produce the next best high for their buyers. Many of these drugs come from abroad, from places such as Mexico or China, but it is here in the U.S. where they are made.

As we continue to report on the opioid epidemic, we must keep our eyes and ears open to what’s going on in our communities and on our streets, in order to properly warn our loved ones who may be in the throes of addiction or in recovery.
