Taken from his family at eight years old, Joshua grew up in foster homes and residential programs. “I can tell you what I think a family should be, but I’ve never had it - I grew up in the system,” says Josh, now 22. “My mom and my family all got high. That’s just how it was. With no structure in my life, I was involved with gangs and using and selling marijuana by the time I was 12.” “I’ve never had a birthday cake. It was just another day, same as Christmas. I’ve never had a Christmas present given to me,” he continues, “When I hit rock bottom with heroin, I was sleeping in abandoned cars in the middle of winter. I was so sick I wound up in the hospital. They said one more night in that car and I wouldn’t have woken up.”

Nov 20, 2013 — Spectrum Awarded Activation Grant by The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts

Spectrum Health Systems was recently awarded more than $45,000 by The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts from their Activation Fund.  Spectrum is leading a project called A Ray of Light on behalf of the Worcester Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation, a coalition formed by the Worcester Division of Public Health in 2012 to address the serious health implications of sex trafficking in the local community.

Apr 25, 2013 — Spectrum Nears Opening of Opiate Treatment Program in Sanford, Maine

Spectrum Health Systems will complete construction of its new Opiate Treatment Program (OTP) in Sanford, Maine later this spring, and is scheduled to begin serving clients early this summer.  The Maine location, at 69 Eagle Drive, is Spectrum’s first OTP located outside of Massachusetts. Most recently, Spectrum opened an OTP in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in the fall of 2012.

Spectrum Health Systems has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency (MassHousing).  The grant will fund renovations for 12 apartment units in Worcester at a property recently acquired by Spectrum specifically to provide affordable drug-free housing for individuals in recovery living in the community.
