James Donald, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Corrections presented Melissa Killough with the Commissioner’s Leadership Coin in recognition of her outstanding performance as director of Spectrum’s 384-bed treatment program at the Bainbridge Probation Substance Abuse Treatment Center. Ms. Killough has worked for Spectrum since 2001.

Nov 07, 2007 — Spectrum Receives Contract Expansion in Georgia

Spectrum’s treatment program at the Bainbridge Probation Substance Abuse Treatment Center recently doubled in size with the addition of 192 beds by the Georgia Department of Corrections. On November 1, James Donald, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Corrections held a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new treatment beds. Charles Faris, Spectrum President and Chief Executive Officer, and Vice President of Clinical Services, Peter Paolantonio attended the dedication ceremony, along with numerous city and state officials.

Nov 06, 2007 — Spectrum Earns High Marks in Maine

Spectrum’s in-prison substance abuse treatment programs received very favorable ratings from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine after an in-depth review using the Correctional Program Assessment Inventory (CPAI). The review team evaluated Spectrum's residential substance abuse treatment program at the Maine Correctional Center and pre-release transitional program at the Central Maine Pre-Release Center.

Oct 31, 2007 — Spectrum Participates in Corrections' Conference

Spectrum's Vice President of Clinical Services, Peter Paolantonio recently presented at a three-day training conference hosted by the Maine Department of Corrections. More than two-hundred correctional staff attended the annual event. Mr. Paolantonio was asked to present on the principles of effective treatment and evidence-based treatment approaches, while providing an overview of Spectrum’s in-prison treatment model in Maine.

Oct 10, 2007 — Spectrum Health Systems Reaches for New Heights

Spectrum Health Systems recently changed the name of its Youth Academy program to R.E.A.C.H. which stands for “Recovery through Education, Adventure, Commitment and Health.” The new name is meant to reflect the program’s transformation from a para-military style approach to a Project Adventure (PA) model, thus creating a less stressful environment and allowing residents to focus on their treatment and recovery.

Sep 20, 2007 — Spectrum to Open New Step-Down Program

Spectrum Health Systems was recently awarded a contract by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to provide short-term stabilization services for adults in early recovery to increase treatment retention following medical detoxification. The thirty-bed program will open November 1st on the second floor of Spectrum’s recently renovated facility in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Programming will include a comprehensive assessment, individualized treatment planning, individual and group counseling, education and continuing care planning. Referral to the next level of treatment and follow-up support will be provided to strengthen and sustain recovery post-discharge.

Aug 02, 2007 — Project Turnabout Holds Dedication Ceremony

Eighty people gathered on May 30, 2007 to commemorate the relocation of Spectrum’s Project Turnabout to a newly refurbished facility in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Speakers at the event included Charles Faris, President and CEO of Spectrum, Senator Steven Tolman, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse, and Senator Bob Hedlund. Representatives from local courts, other community providers, state officials and members of the press toured the building. The new setting offers modern kitchen and dining facilities, semi-private bedrooms, and easy access to medical care and public transportation. Project Turnabout is a thirty-bed residential substance abuse treatment program serving adult men.
