Nov 30, 2006 — Spectrum Health Systems Wins Two New Prevention Contracts

Spectrum Health Systems was awarded two new contracts by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Tobacco Control Program, totaling $190,000 per year. As a result, Spectrum has developed a Youth Tobacco Prevention program to work with local boards of health and municipal officials in the Blackstone Valley to reduce youth access to tobacco products through retailer education and compliance monitoring. Beginning January 1, 2007, Spectrum will also implement a smoking intervention demonstration project in Worcester, one of five pilot sites selected in the state.

Jul 20, 2006 — Spectrum Health Systems to Operate New Assessment Program

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. was selected by the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services as the successful bidder to operate an assessment unit for girls at the state’s Metro Youth Services Center in Dorchester. Slated to open August 1, 2006, the twelve-bed program will provide short-term behavioral treatment and clinical assessment services for girls committed to the Department of Youth Services. Spectrum already operates 55 detention beds at the same facility. The new program will employ twenty-one staff, providing round-the-clock coverage.

Mar 06, 2006 — Spectrum Health Systems Wins Tennessee Bid

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. was awarded a contract by the Tennessee Department of Correction to operate residential substance abuse treatment programs at six correctional facilities in the state. The contract includes more than 500 treatment beds, serving both male and female inmates with serious substance abuse issues.

Mar 02, 2006 — Spectrum Helps Launch City-Wide Quit Smoking Promotion

Spectrum Health Systems joined the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, City of Worcester, UMass Memorial, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School as lead partners to launch Ready, Set, Quit - a quit smoking pilot promotion for residents of Worcester, Massachusetts. The promotion, which ran from January 23 through February 17, encouraged interested Worcester adults to call the state's Smokers' Helpline (1-800-879-8678) for telephone support, and a free two-week supply of nicotine patches. In all, over 50 community-based organizations were supportive partners of the project and over 900 nicotine patch kits were distributed! Cigarette smoking is still the leading cause of preventable disease and death in Massachusetts. The smoking rate among residents of Worcester is 29% higher than the statewide rate, contributing to avoidable illnesses, including lung cancer, asthma and cardiovascular disease.

Feb 15, 2006 — Spectrum Health Systems Receives Funding for GED Programs

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. has received three grants to implement GED classes for clients without a high school diploma. Grant awards include: the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation ($5,000); The 200 Foundation ($2,500) and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals ($1,250). Spectrum plans to establish a GED program for adults at Spectrum’s Westborough Treatment Campus and another for at-risk youth at its Community Re-entry Center in Worcester.

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. announces the appointment of Susan Moitozo to the position of Associate Vice President of Clinical Services. Under the direction of Peter Paolantonio, Vice President of Clinical Services, Ms. Moitozo will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of clinical services throughout the organization, including behavioral healthcare, correctional treatment and adolescent programming.
