Spectrum Health Systems, Inc., New England’s leading substance abuse treatment provider, has appointed Laura A. Ames as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer. Ms. Ames has responsibility for oversight of the company’s multi-site operations, including inpatient, residential and outpatient behavioral health services and continuum of juvenile treatment programs.

“Laura’s extensive healthcare background and management expertise will be instrumental in Spectrum’s ongoing efforts to expand services and enhance programming,” said Charles Faris, President and Chief Executive Officer of Spectrum Health Systems. “She is a strong and effective leader, with proven ability to manage complex service delivery systems.”

Ms. Ames spent the first seven years of her career in nursing. Since 1992, she has held a number of progressively responsible administrative positions in acute rehabilitation and long-term care, eventually becoming the Senior Vice President of Operations at Olympus Healthcare Group with oversight responsibility for six acute/chronic rehabilitation hospitals and seven skilled nursing facilities.

Most recently, Ms. Ames served as the Chief Operating Officer for iCare Management, LLC, in Hartford, Connecticut. In this position, Ms. Ames oversaw the operation of nine skilled nursing facilities, totaling $100 million.

Ms. Ames earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fitchburg State College, a Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Patient Education from Anna Maria College and a Master of Business Administration from Anna Maria College.
