Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. recently received three-year accreditations from CARF International for its community-based inpatient and outpatient treatment programs throughout the northeast, including two new locations in Sanford, Maine and Haverhill, Massachusetts.  CARF International is the leading independent accreditor of health and human services across the U.S., Canada and Europe.

According to CARF, “Spectrum continues to be a leader in the treatment of addiction in New England.  The organization is solution-focused and consistently strives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care provided.  All levels of management are committed to providing effective service delivery, community outreach and maintaining a therapeutic environment.  Clients and funding sources speak highly of the services and of the individuals providing them.”

Spectrum’s Lincoln Street Outpatient Treatment Center in Worcester, Massachusetts was specifically recognized for “exemplary conformance to the standards” for the co-location of primary care services.  Spectrum works with a local community health center to offer integrated behavioral health and onsite medical care  to all clients that do not have a primary care specialist or wish to change their current provider.

“None of our Opiate Treatment Programs received any improvement recommendations. We know from CARF that this is achieved by less than 3% of all organizations surveyed each year,” stated Dennis Theriault, Spectrum’s executive director of corporate compliance, who oversees accreditation for the agency.  “Throughout the exit conference, CARF surveyors were highly complementary of all Spectrum programs and referenced many strengths including our evidence-based curriculum and clinical programming, numerous staff development initiatives, client involvement in the treatment process and the seamless relationship between clinical, medical and administrative staff.”

Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit substance abuse and mental health treatment provider.  In addition to Massachusetts, Spectrum operates programs in Rhode Island, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Tennessee and Washington State - serving more than 48,000 adults and at-risk youth each year.
