Spectrum’s in-prison residential substance abuse treatment programs in Georgia recently earned another three-year accreditation from CARF International – an independent, accrediting body of health and human service providers founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

Achieving accreditation requires demonstrated conformance to proven standards for business and service delivery practices, a commitment to continuous quality improvement, and ongoing performance monitoring. Spectrum has maintained its CARF accreditation in Georgia since 1996, having achieved six three-year accreditations.

“The organization continues to maintain a reputation for its responsiveness to meeting the service needs of the criminal population with substance-related disorders in Georgia’s criminal justice system,” wrote the survey team following its in-depth, onsite program review at eight state correctional facilities. “Staff demonstrates tenure and loyalty to the organization, and there is a strong cohesiveness across the numerous sites despite the distances that separate them. The commitment; professionalism; and, in some cases, tenure of the staff members are great indicators of consistency of service delivery. These qualities assist personnel in focusing on producing positive outcomes for the persons served.”

For the past seventeen years, Spectrum has operated prison-based residential substance abuse treatment programs in the State of Georgia under contract to the Department of Corrections and the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles. Re-awarded numerous times, these contracts now include nine programs totaling 1,742 treatment beds. In addition, Spectrum provides community-based outpatient groups for parolees and probationers across the state.

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. is a private, nonprofit substance abuse treatment and mental health service organization with corporate headquarters in Worcester, Massachusetts. Spectrum currently operates more than 110 treatment programs in community and institutional settings throughout Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, Georgia, Tennessee, Iowa and Washington State.
